Add question in the editor opens Select a question type, which groups the 25 types under Scale, Choice, Text and Custom, each with a live sample. A survey can mix as many types as it needs, and a question’s type can be changed after it is added. Every type is available on every plan except File upload, Screenshot and Signature, which need the Starter plan or above. The same applies to the file and screenshot buttons on a text question. After a move to the Free plan, a published survey keeps these questions until it is published again. Any question can be Required, and any question in a step-by-step or chat survey can have a Time limit.

Scale

NPS

The standard 0 to 10 question about how likely respondents are to recommend you. Usertick calculates the Net Promoter Score on the Results page: the share of promoters (9 to 10) minus the share of detractors (0 to 6).

Rating

Stars: a star rating with 2 to 7 stars and optional labels under the low and high ends. A 5-star rating works as a CSAT question, and Usertick calculates the CSAT score from it.

CES

How easy a task was for the respondent, on an effort scale of up to 7 points. Usertick reports the average effort score alongside NPS and CSAT.

Slider

A slider between two ends, 0 to 100 by default, for questions about how much or how often.

Big scale

A large 1 to 10 scale for touch screens, with a stepper and a live readout. It records the same data as a plain scale.

Ruler

A tick ruler with a unit, for amounts and durations such as minutes, miles or a price. The top end can be open, so the last mark reads as “90+”, for example.

Mood dial

A draggable wheel of faces for rating mood. Respondents turn the wheel until the matching face is under the pointer, or step through with the arrows.

Choice

Yes / No

Two buttons for yes and no, with labels you can change.

Multiple choice

A list of options that allows one answer or several (Multi select). Options can include an “Other” answer with free text, and Shuffle options shows them in a random order for each visitor while “Other” stays last. A compact list for long option sets, such as country, team size or industry.

Emoji

A row of faces that captures mood in one selection.

Ranking

Respondents put options in order of preference by dragging them, or with each option’s Move up and Move down buttons on a touch screen or keyboard.

Matrix

Several rows rated on the same column scale, such as a rating for each of several features.

This or that

A choice between two options, one pair at a time, for quick preference tests between names, layouts or benefits.

Points allocation

Respondents split a fixed number of points across the options. Total points is 100 by default and can be set from 10 to 1,000, and Minimum per bucket and Maximum per bucket can limit each option. Because the total is fixed, the answers show real trade-offs between priorities.

Text

Open text

Text: an open answer in the respondent’s own words. Open-text answers are read for their theme and type, which the Results page and the inbox use. Allow screenshot and Allow file upload add buttons below the text field (Starter plan and above).

Number

A validated number with an optional unit and range, such as team size or monthly spend.

Contact details

Contact: name, email, phone or company fields, in any combination, so a survey can end by asking how to follow up and the response is linked to a real person.

Date

A date, a time or both, set under Date format. The widget draws its own calendar in the survey’s theme, and a date can also be typed in the order the survey’s language writes dates. A time is typed into hour and minute boxes that follow the language’s 12-hour or 24-hour clock. Earliest date and Latest date limit which days can be selected.

Custom

Message screen

A title and a short message, with an optional icon or picture, placed anywhere in the survey. As the first step it works as a welcome screen with a start button. It collects no answer, and the progress bar does not count it.

File upload

Images or PDFs that respondents drop in or select from their device. Usertick stores the files, and they open from the response in the inbox.

Screenshot

A capture of the page the respondent is on, for bug reports and visual feedback.

Signature

A signature drawn with a mouse or by touch, for consent and confirmation flows. A single checkbox for permission, with links to your terms.

Call to action

A button that opens a page, with an option to decline.
A short message screen at the start often improves completion on longer surveys, since people who select the start button usually finish.
