The website channel shows a survey on the page a visitor is looking at, so the answers relate to what the visitor is doing. It needs the install code on a connected site.

Display types

The Display settings of a website survey offer three types:
  • Popup opens in a corner of the page or centered with a dimmed backdrop when its trigger fires. See Targeting and Triggers.
  • Side button places a tab on the edge of the page that opens the survey whenever the visitor selects it.
  • Embedded places the survey in the page, next to or inside an element you name, as soon as that element exists.

How a website survey behaves

  • On screens up to 480 pixels wide, a popup shows as a full-width sheet at the bottom of the screen.
  • The repeat behavior decides how often the same visitor sees the survey, and only one popup shows at a time. See Frequency and politeness.
  • The widget loads asynchronously and renders in its own Shadow DOM. When Usertick can’t be reached, the site works as usual without it.
  • When a response can’t be sent because of a network error, the widget keeps it in the browser and tries again in the background and on later page loads, for up to 7 days.

Set up a website survey

1

Choose the channel

In the editor’s Channel step, select Website.
2

Write the questions

In the Survey step, add the questions, logic and design.
3

Choose where and when

In the Targeting step, set the trigger, the pages, the devices and the repeat behavior.
4

Publish

In the Publish step, select the site and select Publish.
The survey reaches visitors within 5 minutes, and pausing it takes it down. The site must show Connected before the survey can be published; see Check the install.
