# Dashboards

> Build dashboards from cards: numbers, charts, breakdowns and lists, filtered by date and audience, shared and exported.

A dashboard combines cards from one or more surveys on one board. On the Pro plan and above, every card updates as responses arrive; on Free and Starter, cards update when the board is refreshed. The Free plan includes 1 dashboard per organization and Starter includes 3, counting every member's dashboards, and the Pro plan and above have no limit.

## Create a dashboard

**Create a dashboard** offers three ways to start:

* **Build with AI**: after you describe what to track, the AI asks a few questions about your data and plans a board for you to review before it is created. When it asks which surveys to use, it suggests up to 20, and you can search for any other live or paused survey. Building with AI is available on the Starter plan and above, within the monthly allowance for AI dashboard plans.
* **Templates**: a ready-made board that fills itself from your own surveys, with each card finding the matching question. A card that no survey can fill yet is left out, and the board says how many were left out.
* **Blank dashboard**: an empty board that you add cards to.

## Add a card

**Add card** opens the card gallery, grouped into **Featured**, **Charts**, **Numbers**, **Breakdowns** and **Lists**. The gallery includes a **Survey question** card (drawn the way the Results page draws it, with the same views), **Number**, **Stat tile**, **Goal tracker**, **Threshold**, **vs previous period**, **Score distribution**, **Score over time**, **Answer rate by question**, **Time to complete**, **By weekday**, **Top surveys**, **Survey health**, **Themes**, **Top words**, **Latest comments**, **Responses**, **AI insights**, **Variants**, **Note** and **Countdown**. **Suggest with AI** proposes cards based on what the board is missing.

**Custom card** builds a card from three choices:

1. **Measure**: **Responses**, **NPS**, **CSAT**, **CES**, **Average score**, **Completion rate**, **Acceptance rate** or **Click rate**. Every measure except **Responses** reads one selected survey.
2. **Group by**: **Total** gives one number. **Responses** can also be grouped **Over time**, or by **Country**, **Device**, **Language**, **Browser** or **Page**.
3. **Display**: a number, a line or area chart over time, or a list or a donut for a breakdown. Only the displays that fit the measure and grouping are offered.

[Metrics](https://docs.usertick.com/results/metrics.md) explains how each measure is calculated.

## Read the numbers

* A count's change is shown as a percentage of the period before when that period had at least 10 responses, and as a count, such as +5, when it had fewer. A score's change is shown in points, the difference of the two numbers shown, so an NPS that moves from -10 to +5 reads +15 pts.
* A score with no answers in the range reads **No answers in this range** instead of a 0 that looks like a real score.
* A score based on fewer than 30 answers says how many it has.

## Filter a dashboard

The board's date range and filters (country, device, language and page) apply to every card that reads responses. They are your own: your browser keeps them for each board, and nobody else sees them. **Last 7 days**, **Last 30 days** and **Last 90 days** count calendar days in your time zone, today included. Country, language and page list the values that the board's surveys received in the date range, up to the 250 most common, with a search box.

A card can also set its own filters, which apply only to that card. Each field the card sets takes the place of the board's, and fields left empty follow the board filters. Cards that cover their own period, such as **Survey health** or **AI insights**, are marked **Not filtered by the board**.

## Edit a dashboard

**Edit dashboard** opens the board's draft. In the draft, you add, remove, move and resize cards and change the board's name, description and color. Every change is saved to the draft as you work, and everyone else keeps seeing the published board until **Publish dashboard** publishes the draft and ends editing. Viewing a board never changes it.

* The draft is shared. Whoever edits the board next continues from it, and members who can edit the board see **Unpublished changes** beside its name.
* **Revert to published version** returns the draft to the published board.
* When you leave editing with changes from this visit that aren't published, Usertick asks whether to **Publish** them, **Keep as draft** or **Discard changes**.

One person edits a dashboard at a time. While someone else is editing, the board is read only for you and names the person, and editing becomes available when they leave. **Take over** switches the other person to read only, and their saved changes load first, so none of their work is lost.

When the board was saved in another session after you started editing, your next change isn't saved over that version. The board turns read only and shows "This dashboard was changed in another session, so your latest changes weren't saved. Reload it to see the latest version." with a **Reload** button. When your edit lock expired while you were editing and nobody else took the board, Usertick takes the lock back and saves what is pending. When someone saved the board in between, Usertick loads the latest version and says "The edit lock expired, so the editor loaded the latest version of this dashboard." When nobody saved it in between, nothing on screen changes.

## Read-only dashboards

When the organization moves to a plan with fewer dashboards than it has, the extra dashboards become read-only. Before the change, the owner chooses which ones stay editable in **Settings → Billing**; without a choice, the most recently edited stay editable. Overview never counts. See [Plans and billing](https://docs.usertick.com/account/billing.md#items-over-the-limits-of-a-lower-plan).

A read-only dashboard opens with live data and says "This dashboard is read-only because of the plan limit." Its sharing keeps working, but it can't be edited or copied. The person who created it can still delete it. Once the organization is within the plan's dashboard limit, or after an upgrade, read-only dashboards can be edited again.

## Share a dashboard

A dashboard is private to the person who created it until it is shared. **Share this dashboard** shares it with the whole organization, as **Can view** or **Can edit**, or with specific people, who then see it in their dashboard list. See [Sharing](https://docs.usertick.com/workspace/sharing.md) for who can edit and delete.

## Pin a dashboard

Pinning a dashboard from its menu places it under **Pinned** at the top of the list for everyone in the organization.

## Export a dashboard

**Export** saves a whole board, or one card, as PDF, Excel or CSV, and **Save chart as image** saves a card's chart as a PNG. **Schedule email report…** sends any dashboard as a PDF on a schedule, which is set up under **Settings → Scheduled reports**. See [Exports and reports](https://docs.usertick.com/results/exports.md).
